It’s September!  Yes, it’s still insanely hot, but autumn is just around the corner, which means holidays and merriment and back to work.  I have so much fun stuff to share with you this fall!  Lots of WIPs that need to be finished up and sent out into the world.  To that end, I finally have cover art for KISS OF THE WILD WOLF.  Like it? 🙂

Sometimes writer’s block hits at the most inconvenient times. Halfway through Cooper and Sadie’s short, I hit a WALL. The characters didn’t click, the story felt flat. Grrrrr…. After some serious grumbling, I stopped feeling sorry for myself  and remembered that this is just ONE of many things I plan to write – it’s not worth tearing my hair out over. 🙂

I spent most of last night trying to make the mythology in SHADOW OF THE RAVEN match up with the mythology in ENSNARED – my werewolves and muses and witches need to live in harmony or I get grumpy.  But I do have a quick question for you, my lovely readers.  Chime in and let me know what you think!

OK, my paycheck clients don’t understand that I have readers desperately in need of stuff to read, and characters dying for some attention!

Bear with me – the work pile overflowed and buried me in a horrific and unexpected fashion.

On the bright side, SAFE FROM THE DARK downloaded nearly 5500 times this weekend, so Bright’s Ferry has a bunch of new residents!  Welcome!

On the not-so-bright side, I’m not quite done with MAKING THE GRADE, which kind of sucks since I have one of those weeks ahead.

BUT:

Excerpt up soon.  MAKING THE GRADE into the queue as early this week as I can manage it.

This weekend (fingers crossed) MORE THAN A NIGHT will be ready and raring to go. And then next week I’m all about getting through the rest of SAFE FROM THE STORM.

July is going to be a blast – Bright’s Ferry, more TEACH ME TONIGHT, and finally getting you some hot paranormal action with the HEARTS OF STONE prequels – I have Araven almost ready to go, and my hot werewolf from ENSNARED is developing nicely.  Hoping to have new excerpts from that for you soon, too!

TEACH ME TONIGHT #1 – PLAYING HOOKY

Middle school science teacher Molly Callahan is rebelling. For the first time in years, she’s skipping the annual family reunion and taking a real vacation to a tropical island, far from the exhausting Callahan clan and her sister-in-law’s enthusiastic attempts to set her up with her brother, famed anthropologist and writer Jack Roman – totally hot, totally obnoxious, and totally out of her league. Sun, sand, and maybe a little steamy island fling. Molly doesn’t count on her sister-in-law’s epic scheming, however, and is completely unprepared to find herself sharing paradise with the man she flew thousands of miles to avoid.

Jack Roman isn’t on vacation. His stay on this remote tropical island is all research, but how is he supposed to get anything done when maddeningly sexy Molly Callahan shows up to distract him? Suddenly, his research seems less important than making sure that the only man on the island she seduces is him. Summer heats up for Molly and Jack, but is this the basis for a relationship in the real world, or just a hot tropical romance that will burn up when reality comes knocking?

I started 2013 with the idea that I wasn’t going to write any shorts this year, because they kind of got away from me last year, and all my muses and monsters need serious attention, and Bright’s Ferry keeps getting hit with one unnatural disaster after another.  So no shorts.  None.

Then my lovely friend Jane Gaudet came to me early this week and said, “How about a collection of short stories about teachers on their summer vacations?”

To which I said, “Only if I can tangle them up with some really hot guys and get into all sorts of naughty, shudderlicious fun.”

And Jane replied, “Well, duh…”

So this:

MORE THAN A NIGHT is the priority, so that will be up first.  But we have five short, hot little TEACH ME TONIGHT stories – three of them will be singles, and the last two probably in the collection.  But the plan is to put these out every couple of weeks, to help spice up your summer while you’re lying by the pool…or wishing you were lying by the pool…LOL…

And now coffee and back to Henry and Erin, who are currently having trouble keeping up the pretense that this whole “relationship” thing is just an act.  So close!!!

I’m not quite at a point where I get to write full time, so I have to sneak in pages where I can.  Apologies that the blog has been silent for awhile.  Here’s the quick update!!!

MORE THAN A NIGHT – Is growing into novel size, believe it or not.  It was supposed to be a short little 25K novella, but Erin and Henry show no signs of slowing down…or keeping their hands off of each other!  Look for this one first – I am determined to get it out there by the end of the month.

SHADOW OF THE RAVEN – A bit of an overhaul on this one.  The language was feeling far too stuffy, so I spent last weekend reading piles of Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter (awesome stuff) and I’m ready to dive back in.  The main thing is that Cal needs to be Cal for both the prequel and his own upcoming book (A SHATTERED BALANCE, Aug. 2013)  Early June.

SAFE FROM THE STORM – BRIGHT’S FERRY #3 – Been spending a lot of time thinking about Tony and Nora.  Tony’s not difficult – he’s conflicted and relieved and furious and longing – who wouldn’t be to discover a long-dead spouse is actually not?  Nora is a little trickier.  Unlike Evie and Grace in the earlier books, I don’t want Nora to be hard-edged and defiant.  I’d like her to have a fragile, delicate thing going on, over a core of steel, so that she’s underestimated from the start.  It’s hellishly difficult to write – gentle and quiet and a little wounded can easily be misread as victim-y and weak, which is not the goal.  More on that later, but I’m aiming for a great book for your holiday read at the end of June.

SHINY THINGS – I know, I know, I know.  There are six chapters left, outlined, gathering dust.  And I have a pretty good idea lined up for PRECIOUS THINGS as soon as we’re done.  The problem is the day job, which has been sucking my life away for the last couple of months.  Here’s to more writing time to give Ali and Leo the third act they deserve!

Lots to do!  I need to hit 250,000 words by June 30th to be on track.  The ticker there on the side doesn’t reflect all my WIPs – I only update it when something gets released on Amazon, but watch for it to click up in the next few weeks.

Hot and steamy romantic fun in all sorts of genres coming up!  And now back to the drudgery for awhile.
